School set to begin on Tuesday
We are writing to let you know that Saint Mark Lutheran School has been carefully monitoring the developments with Flossie. As of 2:00 p.m. Monday, Flossie was 65 miles north-northeast of Hilo with maximum winds of 40 miles per hour and was forecasted to weaken to a depression within the next 12 hours. According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday’s forecast for Kaneohe, Hawaii is as follows: “Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. Breezy, with an east wind 8 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70% (Last Update on 29 Jul 3:57 pm HST at http://www.prh.noaa.gov/pr/hnl/).” At present time, Saint Mark Lutheran School is planning to move forward as scheduled and open its school doors tomorrow morning for the first day of the 2013-2014 school year. However, please understand that the safety and well-being of our school families is our #1 priority, so if any school families feel the need to keep their child home tomorrow as a result of Flossie, please do so knowing that your decision is fully supported by the faculty, staff and administration of Saint Mark. We will continue to monitor the situation through the evening and early morning hours and will notify you via the school website of any changes. Thank you.
